A West Qatar tour is a private half-day trip into Qatar's wild west coast, taking in the Al Shahaniya camel racetrack, the Zekreet fort ruins, the wind-carved Mushroom Rock, and Richard Serra's monumental desert sculpture in the Brouq nature reserve. This is the strangest and most cinematic corner of Qatar. You pass the camel racetrack at Al Shahaniya, explore the old Zekreet fort ruins and the mushroom-shaped limestone formation nearby, then reach Richard Serra's East-West/West-East, four towering steel plates set across a kilometre of open desert. A local guide drives you out in a Land Cruiser, because the sculpture and the rock formations sit on unpaved tracks that a normal car cannot reach.
